The Brand Image
My approach to creative work is simple: it’s in your face
and through their eyes. The goal is to enable the viewer to live vicariously
through visuals that are simple, clean, and powerful.
Admittedly, I did not come up with this overnight. It’s been
a swirling thought in my head over the last few weeks as I've hovered over the idea
of starting my own creative venture (it’s a matter of when, not if). In doing
so, I looked both backwards, and forwards – at some of the art I've created in
the past, and the art I really want to make in the future. When I look at some
of my past work, I neither consider myself a sports or portrait photographer;
my work is all about people.
There’s also something about a photo that lends itself to
being either a timeless memory, or a distinctly detailed reference point of
what was happening during that fraction of a second. One of the biggest draws
for why I feel so passionately about photography is its ability to tell stories
and act as a means of sharing with the world great art, and great subjects – be
that landscapes, people, or moments in time. As one Canadian volunteer in Sochi
remarked to me as I made my way to an event, “Take lots of photos, I want to
live vicariously through them!”
Lastly, my personal brand statement purposely omits any
reference to photography, and instead focuses only on the qualities of an
image. While I think still imagery will remain at the core of my creative work
for years to come, I definitely intend on diversifying into other mediums, such
as videography and graphic design in order to keep myself current, flexible,
and more appealing to potential clients.
